Auburn guard Robyn Benton was announced as the SEC Freshman of the week on Tuesday.
This honor follows Benton’s game-winning shot against Vanderbilt after Auburn battled back from a 20-point deficit. Benton made a jumper from just inside the free throw line while being fouled. She made the free throw to give Auburn a 72-70 lead with 8.6 seconds left. Vanderbilt missed a shot at the buzzer to tie and Auburn completed the comeback. Benton scored five of her eight points in the second half.
Benton is the third Auburn player to receive a weekly conference honor. Janiah McKay earned Player of the Week on December 23, and Brooke Moore was named Freshman of the Week on December 31.
Auburn returns home on Thursday to face No. 25 Texas A&M for the annual We Back Pat game. Game time is set for 7:30 PM CT on SEC Network.
