Auburn Women's Basketball hangs tough, falls late to No. 10 Tennessee 78-69

The Auburn Women’s Basketball team fell to No. 10 Tennessee Volunteers tonight at home, 78-69. The two teams went neck and neck, tying the score eight times throughout the game.

Sophomore Unique Thompson led the Tigers offensively with 19 points. The 6-foot-3 forward also left with 12 rebounds.

Duke transfer Crystal Primm contributed 16 points, and Daisa Alexander had 13.

The Volunteers were led by Meme Jackson and Rennia Davis who had 27 and 23 points respectively.

It was a tight game to the end tonight between the Tigers and the Tennessee Vols. Going back and forth throughout the first half, the teams went into halftime tied at 35.

The away team picked up the pace in the third quarter when Jackson scored twice on fast breaks and followed with a made three-pointer, leaving the Tigers down 47-54.

Two back-to-back threes by Auburn’s Erin Howard put the home team back within range early in the fourth, bringing the Tigers within two points.

A missed jump shot by Thompson led to a rebound and made lay up by Primm to put Auburn in the lead by one point with 5:41 left in the game.

The Vols took advantage of their time at the line in the last minutes of the game, scoring a total of seven free throws in the last two minutes.

Auburn will take to the road to play Florida in Gainsville on Jan. 6 at 1 p.m. on SEC Network. The Tigers will travel to Tuscaloosa to take on the Crimson Tide on Jan. 10.
