Auburn WBB loses heart breaker to the Texas A&M Aggies 69-67

Auburn loses a tough battle to SEC foe the Texas A&M Aggies 69-67.The Tigers move to 15-4 on the season and 3-3 in conference play. 

The first half looked to be a defensive battle between the two teams as both teams were shooting below 40 percent in field goals.

It was a back and forth battle with the score tied at 19-19 with 6:26 left to play in the second quarter. Auburn went up 28-22 and forced the Aggies to a scoring drought that lasted almost 5 minutes to end the first half.

Coming off her sec freshman of the week honors, Robyn Benton led the tigers with 8 points in the first half and Unique Thompson with 6 rebounds.

The aggies came out with intensity in the second half going on a 7-0 run with 3:36 left to play in the third quarter. 

The momentum started to shift for the aggies when the tigers started to get into foul trouble committing 5 fouls in the first 4:00 minutes of the fourth quarter.

Texas A&M went on an 8-0 run with 5:17 left to play putting the aggies up 59-48 and giving them their largest lead of the night.

Auburn fought back and tied the game at 67-67 off a layup by Mckay with 0:17 left to play but it wasn’t enough as the Aggie’s star player Chennedy Carter drove to the basket in the paint to hand auburn the loss.

"We continue to fight. and we did everything we could to win the basketball game and we needed to get a stop, " said head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy.

The Tigers look to bounce back as they have a big test on the road at Missouri Sunday, January 27 at 2 p.m CT on SEC Network +.
