McKay averaged 18.3 points, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals in the Tigers’ three victories. She scored 21 points and hit critical free throws in both games in Myrtle Beach, S.C. to lead the tigers past Coastal Caroline and North Carolina.
She made crucial plays against North Caroline when her pass to freshman Robyn Benton with 10 seconds left in regulation sent the game into over time as the score became tied at 69-69. In overtime, McKay scored nine points to clinch the victory for Auburn. Her 21-point efforts against Coastal Carolina and North Carolina were her third and fourth consecutive games scoring at least 20 points.
This mark the second career SEC honor for McKay as she was named SEC Freshman of the Week on Dec. 21, 2015, after a stellar performance in a tournament at Towson.
The Tigers are 11-1 overall and have won eight straight games, the longest winning streak under head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy. The Tigers close out non-conference on Saturday, Dec. 29, at home against Alabama State.
