The Auburn Tigers (8-7, 1-4 SEC) started hot out of the gates with a 7-2 scoring run before the Georgia Bulldogs (12-4, 3-2 SEC) had to call a timeout. This has been a common occurrence for Auburn to take the early lead before letting off the gas. Brenna McIlroy as per usual leads the team in kills early on with 5 with the first set coming to an end. 26-24 is the final score at the end of the first set with Georgia giving Auburn a last-minute scare but Anna Stevenson sealed the deal with a match point kill.
Auburn in the second set sends their starters from set 1 back on the floor. Georgia although beginning its comeback as they were the first to 10 point. The Tigers with a 1-3 record in conference play have not been finishing well late in play and its continuing to show in this match. Georgia took its momentum early on to finish off the Tigers in set 2 by a score of 25-15 as the match is all tied up heading into set 3.
With both teams starting out the 3rd set strong, it’s a real grudge match at the Auburn Arena with both teams tied at 10 apiece before the first timeout of this set. Brenna McIlroy already now with 12 kills on the match with her totals steadily increasing. Auburn began to break away later in the set being the first team to 20 points as they would finish the bulldogs off taking set 3 by a score of 25-20.
The Tigers who took set 3 are up 2-1 with the 4th set to play. Auburn took the early 9-6 lead with help from Auburns front line in Gwyn Jones and Anna Stevenson. The Tigers unlike the past few games have kept their momentum throughout the game trying to close out their 9th win on the season. Georgia although makes a comeback with 5 straight points to close out the set 4.
The 5th and final at the Auburn was one for the books. The Bulldogs unfortunately took it away by a score of 20-18 as Auburn drops their 4th conference game of the season. Brenna McIlroy finished with 19 kills but the Tigers could not hold on in Auburn's toughest loss of the season.
