1. Auburn’s defense was spectacular
Auburn’s defense has been incredible all season long. The Tigers came into the game ranked fifth nationally in points allowed and put together another strong performance on Saturday. Auburn held Georgia running backs Nick Chubb and Sony Michel to just 48 yards combined. Auburn’s defensive line pressured Georgia freshman quarterback Jake Fromm all game long and sacked him four times. If Auburn’s defense shows up like this in two weeks, the 2017 edition of the Iron Bowl will be a fun one for Tiger fans.
2. Kerryon Johnson is special
Auburn running back Kerryon Johnson hasn’t garnered the national attention that he deserves this year. That will change after his performance against Georgia. Johnson ran for 167 yards and caught two passes for 66 yards, including a 55-yard touchdown. Even against a talented Georgia defense, it felt like Johnson could get wherever he wanted to go Saturday.
Kerryon Johnson has averaged an SEC-best 129.4 rushing yards per game, compiled 1,187 all-purpose yards and scored 17 total touchdowns. After the game head coach Gus Malzahn said that his running back deserved to be in the Heisman conversation. He has a point.
3. The stage has been set for a great Iron Bowl
Following Auburn’s win over Georgia, the stage has been set for a great Iron Bowl. Alabama took care of business on Saturday and knocked off Mississippi State on the road. The SEC West will come down to the Iron Bowl on Saturday, Nov. 25th. That’s what all college football fans want, right?
One of the greatest rivalries to determine the winner of the western division in the SEC. Auburn and Alabama both want to be in Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game, and they want to be back in Atlanta for the national championship.
Buckle up folks, college football is about to get fun.
